Step 7: Create an Ambient White Halo

As a final effect we can add an ambient white halo outline to further enhance the drama lighting can bring to our art. In a new file, flatten all of the art excluding the background. Be sure to save the separate unflattened layers file. Hide the background layer and then Magic Wand all of the negative empty space and go to the Select menu and choose Inverse. A selection outline of the figures should now be made. On a new layer, go to Edit>Stroke. The outline should look something like this:

Copy the stroke layer and paste 2 copies of it into your saved file that was not flattened.
These should go above the background and beneath the rest of the colors. Go to Filter>Blur>Gaussian Blur and pull the slider until a nice glow effect occurs.
Do the same to the other copy on a much less blurred setting. This will create the
more intense value of the glow effect.

After applying these techniques we can see how much more interesting the subjects appear. Your choices of light can assist having your art tell more of a story to a dramatic effect.
